Thottil with Window
A lullaby, woven into organic cotton.
Aariro is a Tamil word that literally means the lullaby amma sings while rocking her baby to sleep in a thottil. It's where our name, and our whole story, began!
We've taken the classic cloth cradle your amma and paati swear by and given it a fresh little twist: a breathable leno window that lets the air flow through and lets you sneak a peek at your bub without waking them. Made from soft, breathable organic cotton, this hanging baby cradle is gentle on delicate skin and perfect for warm Indian days. Just hang it from your ceiling hook with a thottil chain or rod, and it's ready for cosy rest, gentle rocking, and all the lullabies to come.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a thottil?
A thottil is a traditional Indian cloth cradle, hung from the ceiling so it can gently sway. Its soft, rocking motion has soothed babies for generations.
What is the leno window for?
The leno window is an open, breathable weave panel that allows air to flow through and lets you check on your baby without lifting the fabric.
From what age can I use it?
We recommend the thottil from 3 months onwards, up to a weight of 15 kg. Stop using it once your baby can sit up, pull themselves up, or try to climb out.
How do I set it up?
Hang the fabric from a secure ceiling hook using a thottil chain or rod. Tie the ends firmly, keep the thottil low and close to the floor, and check that it's stable before placing your baby inside.
Is the hook, chain or rod included?
No, the thottil comes as fabric only. You can use your existing ceiling hook with a thottil chain or rod.
What is the wooden separator, and do I need it?
The wooden separator holds the two sides of the fabric apart, keeping the thottil open for better airflow. It's optional and sold separately.
Is it comfortable in hot weather?
Yes. The organic cotton is breathable, and the leno window adds airflow. Dress your baby lightly for the room temperature.
Is a mosquito net available?
Yes, a mosquito net is available separately. Make sure it's securely fitted and doesn't rest on or hang near your baby.
Can I add a pillow or blanket inside?
No. Please keep the thottil free of pillows, blankets and toys, and always lay your baby on their back.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash with a mild detergent and dry in shade. Make sure it's completely dry before hanging it again.
